Restart your router
Turn the router power off, wait 30 seconds, then turn it back on. Wait a few minutes for the router to reconnect.
Use this guide to identify your Optical Network Terminal (ONT), check the right lights, and make sure your router is connected to the correct port before contacting AFTEL support.
These simple checks solve many connection issues and also help AFTEL lodge the right fault with Redtrain if the fibre signal itself is down.
Turn the router power off, wait 30 seconds, then turn it back on. Wait a few minutes for the router to reconnect.
Find the ONT, usually inside a garage wall enclosure or communications cabinet. Check that power is on and the fibre signal light is green.
The router port labelled WAN, Internet or sometimes a different colour must connect to the active ONT Port/LAN 1 path.
Redtrain installations use a few different ONT models. Choose the guide that matches the unit in your cabinet.
Look for Power, PON and LAN1. This is usually the easiest model for customers to check.
Used in legacy VicUrban / Development Victoria estates. The active Ethernet port may be at the back.
Included for identification only. If you still have one, contact AFTEL so replacement can be requested.
For Huawei ONTs, the important indicators are Power, PON and LAN1. In most Redtrain homes only LAN1 is enabled for the first internet service.
If LAN1 will not light up, test by connecting the router directly to Huawei LAN1 with a known-good network cable. This bypasses the patch panel and wall socket.

The Enablence model is harder for average customers to inspect because the Ethernet ports are behind the ONT. Focus on confirming power, fibre signal and Port 1 link before calling support.

Corecess ONTs are now obsolete across the Redtrain network. If you still have one installed, please contact AFTEL customer service so we can request a replacement from Redtrain.

Most no-connection reports after moving equipment come down to one of these two mistakes.
Even if the ONT has four Ethernet ports, Redtrain normally enables only Port/LAN 1 for your internet service. Other ports usually will not work unless Redtrain has specifically enabled or directed them.
Your ONT or wall outlet must connect to the router's WAN or Internet port. Router LAN ports are for your computers, switches and other home devices.
To rule out house cabling, connect ONT Port/LAN 1 directly to the router WAN port with a known-good Ethernet cable, then power cycle the router.
If the physical lights are correct but the router still will not connect, check the router internet type is PPPoE and enter the AFTEL username and password exactly as supplied. Credentials are case sensitive.
Call or email AFTEL with your ONT type and light status. If the Redtrain fibre signal appears down, AFTEL can lodge the fault and Redtrain will contact you for a technical appointment.
